MURU
MUMU

A cyborg created by Gabriela Bornatto

Who is murumumu?

Is a cyborg discovered in 2020, the year of the global pandemic - and also the year when people started paying more attention to nature and, more specifically, to the trees.

It’s a human itself? So why should we call him a cyborg?

Because he stayed so much time in a natural live, only in contact with the trees, that he developed unique characteristics and qualities that “normal” and boring humans, have no idea they could achieve.

Murumumu is what we could call an inner cyborg and maybe a new type of cyborg, because despite its intrinsic different way of seen things, he also is physically different from normal humans.

He discovered how time is relative and keep muta

ting his physical appearance, so people will not notice him in the top of the coconut trees.

What’s his history?

He was born in the beach, but his mother died giving birth and his father was to busy with business and money that abandon the little murumumu at the door of a fisher hause.

The fisher took care of him, but the year he completed 9 years old, there was a huge storm and the man could not go back home.

Being alone in the world but knowing the beach with the back of his hand, murumumu started his new way of life – living on the top of the coconut trees.

He started eating only fruits and fish and playing his flute that the fisher had time to teach him.

When he is at his tree-home he is very lazy, and drop banana’s peel to take them to the trash later. Besides that he is always hungry, if an unsuspecting tourist drops a food – forget about it.

His walk is very silly, when he walks his hair shakes to both sides (like coconut leaves); his arms don’t really touch his body, so them stays up like the ones from a penguin; his feet stays almost together (also like a penguin); his nose shakes to both sides and he has unstable eyes – because of his shyness. He seems distracted with all the information around, but also alert and afraid that a human will suddenly appear.

A typical Murumumu’s day would be sleeping a lot – taking care of the birds in the morning, feels tickles because of the leaves, fells the wind and plays his flute, walk to the beach when there is no one looking to get food and see the ocean, in this exceptional moments is possible to observe his silly and clumsy walk. Goes back to the tree, eats a lot. Get annoyed with flies. Enjoy the smell of fresh bread. Also, when he is sure he hasn't been noticed, he keeps watching people and their strange behaviors.

One day, a truly strange human being came to the beach and started to say

that he was going to cut down all those trees. Murumumu had no doubt, dropped a coconut on the head of what others call the president. That was his worthy achievement.

His characteristic?

His main characteristic is still the same as when he was a normal human: he is clumsy – always stumbling and dropping things. He is very shy and avoids maximum any type of contact with  other humans. Also, he is anxious, although he seems calm, he is always in alert that something bad is going to happened, he do not like the way most people behave and treat nature.

He is a cyborg because he learn to develop his brain to better understand nature and its energies.

Since the character was principaly inspired in my contact with nature and Brazilians forests, I decided to make a criticism through the stranger.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Bolsonaro, brazilian President.

But since he was elected, among a lot of other problems like educational and social setbacks,  Brazilian forests have suffered tremendously from deforestation and fire (and this is not just about the Amazon).

Thinking about it, I decided to make a funny video in which murumumu throws a coconut at the head of the Bolsonaro - which would be a metaphor for what Brazilian forests would actually like to do.
